PM signs contract for $64m expansion of Mandeville Primary and Junior High

MANCHESTER, Jamaica (JIS) – Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, last Friday signed contracts valued at J$64 million for expansion and rehabilitation of the Mandeville Primary and Junior High School in Manchester.

The project, being jointly funded by the Government of Jamaica and the Caribbean Development Bank, will entail construction of a 12-classroom block with new bathrooms, and facilities for increased access by persons with disabilities, as well as re-roofing and re-painting of the buildings.

The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) will oversee implementation of the project, which will be carried out by construction firm, Ashtrom Building Systems Limited.

The project is slated for completion by mid 2016, and is expected to result in the elimination of the double shift system, currently in place for the over 2,000 enrolled students.
